Michael D Kelly (MB BS hons. 1, MS, FRACS, FRCS (Eng.)) is a Consultant General Surgeon with many years of experience. He was a medical student, junior doctor and surgical trainee at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney (with secondments at St George, Liverpool and Wagga Wagga Hospitals). He went abroad to gain further training and experience in Hepato-pancreatico-biliary / Oesophago-gastric Surgery and Endoscopy (Hammersmith Hospital, London 1998-99, Royal Infirmary, Glasgow 2000-01, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong 2003) and Surgical Oncology (St Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin 1999-2000).
Previous appointments include; Locum then Consultant Upper GI Surgeon at Frenchay and Southmead Hospitals in Bristol, England (2004 to 2011), Senior Lecturer in Surgery/Clinical Academic, University of NSW/St George Hospital, Sydney (2001-02) and Lecturer in Surgery, University College Dublin, Ireland (1999-2000).
Mr Kelly has a strong academic background and was a Research Fellow at St George Hospital, Sydney and Imperial College/Hammersmith Hospital, London leading to a Master of Surgery by thesis from University of NSW, Sydney. He has numerous publications in peer reviewed Journals and is on the Editorial Board of BMJ Case Reports and World Journal of Emergency Surgery (having been a founding member of the World Society of Emergency Surgery).
Mr Kelly trained with some of the pioneers of laparoscopic surgery and has expertise in laparoscopic Upper GI Surgery. He has Conjoint Committee accreditation in ERCP, Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy.
